What exactly is energy management for EV charging?

An energy manager (in technical terms, an Energy Management System or EMS) is the smart director of your electricity. It continuously measures how much energy is available and how much is being used, and adjusts your vehicle's charging accordingly. This way, you always charge at the right moment, at the right power, without overloading your installation.

You'll come across two terms:

HEMS (Home Energy Management System): smart energy management at someone's home, for example for a company car in the driveway.
BEMS (Building Energy Management System): smart energy management for a building or business site with multiple charging points.

The same logic, at two different scales. At home, our solution is called energy manager Home; on site, energy manager Pro.

How does the energy manager Home work?

Real-time insight: via the MobilityPlus app, you follow your consumption and charging sessions live.
Don't trip the fuse: charging adapts to the rest of your home, so the power never cuts out.
Peak shaving: we flatten your consumption peaks, because in Flanders your highest quarter-hourly peak determines your capacity tariff.
Follow the peak: the energy manager learns your consumption pattern and automatically keeps you within your own peak.
Follow the sun: do you have solar panels? Then your vehicle charges with your own surplus instead of feeding it back to the grid for next to nothing.
Boost: need a lot of charge quickly? With one tap you temporarily increase the power, and you immediately see what it costs.

What does the energy manager Home deliver?

A lower energy bill: you avoid expensive peak loads and therefore a higher capacity tariff.
More from your solar panels: feeding back currently earns barely around 0.02 euro per kWh, while grid electricity quickly costs ten times as much. Using your own solar energy to charge is therefore far more advantageous.
No grid upgrade needed: you get more out of your existing connection.
Correct reimbursement: every home charging session is clearly recorded, ready to be reimbursed by the employer.
