This summer, Europe officially surpasses the milestone of one million public charging points. A major step forward for e-mobility, and a clear sign that travelling by electric vehicle (EV) has never been easier. What once felt like an adventurous search for a charging station is now a structured network that supports seamless and efficient long-distance EV travel across the continent.
According to the latest figures from the EAFO (European Alternative Fuels Observatory) and Eco-Movement, there are now more than 100,000 (ultra) fast chargers across Europe—enough to recharge your vehicle in under 20 minutes. A quick coffee break is all it takes: while you grab your espresso, your EV is almost fully recharged.
Electric mobility is no longer about compromise—it’s about convenience.
Belgium is following the same trajectory. The country now boasts nearly 100,000 usable public charging points, including around 7,000 fast chargers. Even Wallonia, previously a slower adopter, has doubled its number of fast chargers in just one year.
The result? A high-quality, smart, and reliable charging network available nationwide—thanks to strong investments from the industry, with EV Belgium members leading the way.

With the implementation of the AFIR regulation (Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation), EV charging across Europe is becoming even more user-friendly. The regulation introduces transparent pricing, bank card payment options, and full interoperability across operators.
As a result, EV drivers can now enjoy a faster, clearer, and more seamless charging experience across borders.
By 2030, Belgium is expected to host up to 2 million electric vehicles. With a fast-growing, high-performance charging network, EV drivers will be able to rely on easily accessible and fast-charging infrastructure, both locally and throughout Europe.
